Warning signs
Map every affected fixture.
- One sink, tub, or shower drains slowly
- Several nearby fixtures gurgle or back up
- A toilet bubbles when another fixture drains
- Sewer odor appears near a drain or cleanout
- The same blockage returns after temporary relief
Pause water use during a backup.
More water entering the drainage system can increase what returns through a low fixture. Keep people and pets away from contaminated water, and never mix chemical drain products.
Recurring clogs need a cause.
Household buildup, grease, roots, poor slope, mineral scale, and line damage can create similar symptoms. The recurrence pattern helps frame the next diagnostic step.
